Born in 1961 in Paris and drawing on her background in photography and the study of signs (graphology, morphology), Sylvie Mangaud translates the analysis of the line into the three-dimensionality of bronze. Her work is an exegesis of movement, in which the body is no longer merely an anatomical subject, but a pure emotional language. The artist captures the moment to freeze it in a dreamlike verticality.
Sylvie Mangaud’s work transcends the aesthetics of mere grace to explore the resilience of the human condition. The artist treats the body as a hieroglyph of the will. Here, the radical elongation of the limbs is no longer a quest for lightness, but a forward thrust and an architecture of effort. Bronze, through its immutable density, seals this life force: that of the human being who strives, who leaps, and who persists.
The universality of Mangaud’s work lies in the anonymity of her smooth faces. By erasing individual features, she elevates her sculptures to archetypes: they are no longer portraits, but a mirror of humanity in perpetual striving.
