La méthode de travail de Joan Saló a toujours eu une forte composante méditative. L'artiste catalan part toujours de gestes minimaux qui, comme s'ils configuraient un nouvel alphabet, proposent une lecture abstraite de la réalité. Les œuvres qui en résultent rappellent les peintures rupestres, les ombres d'objets inconnus, les fantasmagories de lumière ou les représentations du monde des rêves.
Les peintures de Saló réconcilient l'abstraction et la figuration, le conscient et l'inconscient, l'obsession et la spiritualité. Les découvertes et les accidents de l'acrylique sur toile établissent un réseau de significations développé à partir de formes primaires qui se répètent sans début ni fin. Ce sont des œuvres qui nous parlent du temps et le capturent, qui rendent visible le rythme du processus pictural - la relation entre le cerveau et la main - pour créer une carte mentale et sensorielle, un code, une traduction plastique du langage de l'ineffable.
