JWZ8, an artwork of Julie Wolfe

The drawings in Cultural Values are developed using the pages from an extensive collection of vintage world history books found in a second hand bookstore. The text reveals topics such as: human values, language of protest, the importance of art in society, equality, urban growth and social responsibility.

In order to begin the making process, the artist chooses a single word from each page. The association of text with form and color is the method used to visualize an intuitive composition that might illustrate this particular word forming a type of “visual vocabulary”.

Variations on this theme have been shown in Berlin, Brooklyn, New York and The American University Museum Washington DC pinned directly to the wall as a Suite of 250 pages.

The pages are not in a particular order. It is more important that the drawings flow as an aesthetic, visual experience.

Each page can be sold individually or in groups, arrangement on wall can vary. Each page is signed and numbered on the back for records and authenticity. Framing can be done individually or as a large framed grouping.
