A man of faith, Eberhard Ross answers the call of emptiness. Seeing and listening go hand in hand in his Zen spirit. The equivalence between tones and sounds gives meaning to his minimal art, echoing the pure tunes of Arvo Pärt or Keith Jarrett. Nature provides him with the essence of his motifs: trees, shells, migratory birds... What grows, flies away, opens into a corolla, agitates, in other words palpitates, absorbs him. His feelings for the secret life of flora and beasts are transformed into black and white writing, calligraphy similar to that which Mark Tobey, the modern mystic, carefully traced with the tip of his brush. The eye is lost in this magma of signs, linking beauty and piety, nothingness and the Great Whole, with interlacing volutes. Eberhard Ross finds refuge here, and even rest. Elsewhere, his quiet work pauses and, as it holds the note, sheds new light. A halo painted on the other side is the beating heart.
