Founded in 2022 by Ophélie Dozat and Lucien Dumas, Materra-Matang is an architecture, furniture, and research studio with a resolutely multidisciplinary approach. Their practice merges design, fabrication, and experimentation to intervene at all scales, from landscape fragments to buildings. A local material (earth, wood, stone) or a construction detail often becomes the seed of a global project, rooted in a fine analysis of the territory to reconnect architecture to its ground through craftsmanship.
Ophélie Dozat, an architect and PhD candidate (ENSAV, EHESS), conducts research on retaining walls as infrastructural archetypes. After collaborations in Rome, Brussels, and Paris, she was a resident at the Villa Medici (2023-2024). Lucien Dumas, an architect and cabinetmaker trained at the École Boulle, backed by international experience (including Herzog & de Meuron), founded the MATANG workshop in 2020 before uniting their paths.
The studio was a winner of the 2023 AJAP and a finalist at the Hyères Design Parade. The year 2025 consecrates their work : two creations join the Mobilier national collections, and they receive the endowment of the Grand Prix d’Architecture. Their co-working pavilion at the Farnese Palace is nominated for the Équerre d’Argent (First Work category) and is a finalist for the AR Emerging Award. These distinctions confirm their status as a leading emerging voice, combining academic rigor and material poetry.
