A visual artist with 25 years of experience in multimedia projects and 5 years of experience using ceramics and bronze as sculptural media, Jojo Corväiá explores the concepts of freedom of expression, abstraction, and imperfection in his work.
“By essence, perfection does not interest me. Being free of flaws and imperfections directly contradicts my idea of freedom of expression, and I see my work as a vehicle for communicating freedom. I connect each piece to my thoughts, my memories, and my feelings. Every piece becomes a diary, and a series of them turns into books, written with an idiomatic force that my hands can only reach through touch. There is no way to hide an emotion. I must be one hundred percent present with each piece for it to emerge, and at that moment, the piece and I become one. Whether I create a bowl, a table, or a complex sculpture, everything you see is a captured moment—perhaps even an instant; everything you see is me. I know this because, while working on my pieces, I have never felt so close to myself.”
