The sketches of the female forms of Jonathan Kroell are exercises in simplification and reduction. He continuously expands his visual vocabulary to pierce the emptiness of the whitespace through fragile lines. These fragmented poses challenge expectations. The ambiguous plain lets you focus attention to rediscover seemingly well-known forms.
His approach involves repetition to break down drawing-habits and make room for chance to take part in the process. Deconstructing a model's pose and reassembling it in an almost mechanical way, thus allowing the sketches to captivate one’s attention.
There is no meaning. It is what it is.
