For François Kenesi, photography is the continuation of sketching by other means. Taken from the notes of an imprudent traveller, photography is first and foremost a tool for representing reality. To understand the genesis of his photographs, you need to have leafed through his sketchbooks, where each image is bordered by a sacred margin, a space that preserves its character as an event. The frame is inscribed in the viewfinder of the Leica M, leaving the photographer entirely responsible for his choices. The image is not manufactured or posed, never cropped, but it imposes its frame, as evidenced by the black border marking the edge of the negative. Reality is a ready-made.

Daylight, smoke from a nuclear power station, the sky outside a train window. Only fleeting apparitions hold François Kenesi's attention. A town-planning architect, he has retained from his first loves an "immoderate taste" for geometry, spatial planning and the spirit of place. Sensitive to the "empty planes" of Yasujiro Ozu and the "long dashes" of Emily Dickinson, he finds downtime lively, in keeping with his tranquil nature. "I'm relatively uninterested in the surface," says this stroller, striding slowly towards the "spiritual thing" that he wants to "make visible": a cooling tower in the shape of a diabolo, an island in the hollow of the Loire, between Briare and Saint-Firmin, forming a bikini. "Exoticism is a ready-made and can be found there, under my nose", he remarks about his chosen motifs, whose repeated presence increases their value. His neighbouring landscapes are ordinary, silent and self-explanatory. Such is the case with this scrap of paper swept by changing rays, dripping to the ground like a setting sun.
